Argentina trashed Paraguay 6-1 in the second semifinal of the Copa America 2015 to reach the final. Contrary to the final score-line, Paraguay did play well in the second semi-final, and were able to score a goal, despite being down by two goals. The first, when Messi swung across a free-kick right to Rojo‘s boot, and the second was scored by Pastore who drove the ball low into the goal post. Paraguay lost two of their star players through injury and had to substitute both of them- Gonzalez and Santa Cruz within thirty minutes. They fought back and were able to get a goal by Lucas Barrios, whose shot was just two powerful for Romero’s hands. But in the second half, the Paraguayan defense crumbled as Di Maria hit two consecutive goals, and set up one for Aguero. Argentina were running rampant by the time Higuan also got to score. Despite not getting on the score-card, their skipper Messi played an important role in their victory, being involved in all of them ,and assisting three. Argentinean defense had another splendid day, with Mascherano leading their back four, and Otamendi showing why the top clubs in Europe are eyeing him.

Argentina were in the final last time on 2007, and now they face Chile this upcoming Saturday. Chile meanwhile had a comparatively easy task in the semi-final as Peru had to play 70 minutes with 10 men. It was tournament top scorer Vargas who had the winning shot, which surely is the favorite to win the goal of the competition. Gerardo Martino would surely look in to employ both Mascherano and Otamendi to contain him and ask both the wing-backs to make sure Vidal doesn’t get much scoring options. Chile have never won the title, making it so important for the hosts.

The title clash is on 4th as both the team prepare for glory at the Estadio Nacional in Santiago. The winner qualifies for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia. Chile has all the odds in its favour as all their players are fit and in top form coupled with the strong home support. Argentina too has excelled at the right time but it will take a more than an extraordinary effort to stop hosts Chile.
