Zam Hydropower Station, Largest Dam in Tibet on River Brahmaputra Gets Operational

The largest dam in Tibet, which is built across Brahmaputra river has started its functioning since 13th October. Zam Hydropower Station which has cost around USD 1.5 billion (9.6 billion Yuan) is now operational and it is expected that it shall produce 2.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, thus eradicating electricity crisis in central Tibet. One fifth of the Bihar’s population shall be casting their votes today in the first phase of the much awaited Bihar elections. RBI Cuts Down Repo Rate

Reserve Bank of India today slashed down the repo rate by 0.5% or 50 basis points to 6.75%. The repo rate now stands at four and half year low. The rate cut shall be effective from 05th October. However the cash reserve ratio has been unchanged and it still stands at 4%. The cut in the repo rate shall help commercial banks to reduce their home loans. The rate cut will put pressure on private home loan providers. SBI currently provides home loans at 9.7% for women and 9.75% for women. Its nearest rivals offer home loans at 9.85% to 9.9%. RTI Reveals AAP Onion Scam in Delhi

The Aam Aadmi Party Government in Delhi has been making claims of purchasing onions at Rs. 40 per Kg and selling at Rs. 30 per kg. Following an RTI appeal by National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED), it has come to light that there is a huge difference between the actual procurement cost and the price at which the onions were sold to the Delhites.
