Fake Degree Case: Delhi Law Minister Arrested, Quits

Yesterday, when the AAP’s senior leader Sanjay Singh broke the news about the arrest of Delhi’s Law Minister Jitender Tomar, it was received with a surprise to all the political analysts as the matter was sub judice in the Delhi High court. The arrest of Tomar brought huge embarrassment to AAP, yet gave them the opportunity to attack the centre for its latest coup.

A writ petition was filed on February 4 this year before the Delhi High Court alleging Tomar of giving false information in his affidavit at the time of filing his nomination for the Delhi Assembly elections.In his plea, advocate Santosh Kumar Sharma alleged Tomar of submitting fake Undergraduate degrees from Awadh University to get enrolled in BSILS college for legal studies.The Delhi High court had issued notices to Tomar, Bar Council of India (BCI),and the Bar Council of Delhi on the same plea.

In the court proceedings, the Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University of Bihar which is the affiliating University of BSILS replied to the court that the alleged roll number belonged to another candidate.After a month,In contrast to its Varsity, the Bishwanath Singh Institute of Legal Studies (BSILS) filed an affidavit in the Delhi High Court stating that Mr. Tomar had studied between 1994-1998 and was a bonafide student of the college.However, the affiliation of this institute to TMBU during that period is also into the question.

The recent arrest of Tomar is supposed to be done on the complaint filed by the Bar Council of Delhi on 11th May with the Delhi Police.In the complaint,the BCD had sought a probe into the alleged fake degree case of Tomar.

AAP was quick in alleging the centre and the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi of Political Vendetta against them.Deputy CM Manish Sisodia in his Press-Conference told the reporters that the decision to arrest the Minister came a day after the role of the L-G  to shield the alleged officers into the CNG Fitness Scam came into light. Yogendra Yadav,the former associate of AAP in his tweet asked to make the degrees of Tomar into the public domain.

Meanwhile, Tomar has been given 4 days of Police custody and is being taken to Faizabad to check the authenticity of his Undergraduate Degree from RML Awadh University.In the recent developments, Tomar resigned from the post of the Law Minister of Delhi and his resignation letter was accepted by the Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal.
